CAUSEWAY COAST

THE DISTINCTIVE DIAMOND (SQUARE) IN COLERAINE
WITH THE NEO-CLASSICAL TOWN HALL.

The Causeway School Museum, housed in a school designed by Clough Williams-Ellis, above the Causeway, recreates the spartan school days of the 1920’s. Sympathetically restored to much of it's original splendour it contains several works by the sculptress Rosamund Praeger. Open daily to the public on a daily basis during July & August from 11am – 5pm. Further information – Tel: (028) 2073 1777.

Portballintrae, west, is a pretty harbour village, noted for salmon and sea angling.

Bushmills, inland by two miles, is the home of the famous Old Bushmills, oldest licensed distillery in the world. King James I granted the original license to distil "Aqua Vitae" in April 1608 and Bushmills has been making the finest Irish Whiskey here for almost four hundred years since.

Tours of the Old Bushmills Distillery show visitors the entire process from its very start through the fermentation, distillation, maturation to final bottling and dispatch. Visitors are then invited to the Pot Still Bar to enjoy a sample of one of the several whiskeys produced at the distillery and the two gift shops.

Dunluce Castle, a picturesque headland ruin dating from the 16th and 17th century also has a Visitor Centre telling how most of the castle’s kitchens, cooks and pots and pans, fell into the sea during a banquet in 1639. Its secure sea cave entrance can be visited by boat.

Portrush further west, the north’s premier cold water resort, has a fine promontory setting, one of the world’s top golf links at Royal Portrush (18), (18), (9), an indoor Waterworld aquarium and pool, the Portrush Countryside Centre explaining seaside flora and fauna and fine seafood restaurants — plus some of the best charter boat sea angling in Ireland. East are the dramatic White Rocks, Strand and Caves. Offshore are The Skerries.

The Dunluce Centre in Portrush provides a new generation of entertainment, through its theme attractions, 'Treasure Fortress' and 'Finn McCool's Adventure Playground' hi-tech entertainment which provides both fun and a learning experience for all ages in the family.
