NIGHTLIFE

Some
of the city bars are for the archetypal Glasgow 'hard men', some for
conversation, others for football fans, and several are patronised by
students, broadcasters, journalists and film folk. Many but not
all several hundred in the city have good decor, often with vintage
or 'theme' furnishing. Glasgow is also well known for its excellent
clubs with a variety of music.

De Quinceys, 71 Renfield Street. Tel: (0141) 333 9725.

with stylish wall and ceiling tiles.

Enjoy a warm welcome at Granary Bar the meeting point of native south

established since 1983.
Halt Bar, 160 Woodlands Road. Tel: (0141) 564 1527.
Artists, journalists and film types all favour this no-nonsense pub.
You would have to ask inside why it has adopted the mounted statue,
across the road, of a cartoon-character Wild West sheriff, and why his
horse has only two legs.
Horse Shoe Bar, 17 Drury Lane. Tel: (0141) 229 5711.
No shortage of space at the longest continous bar in the UK.
Lock 27, 1100 Crow Road. Tel: (0141) 958 0853.
Away for the city centre, beside an old lock on the Forth and Clyde
Canal, it may well have the biggest selection of beers in Glasgow.
Strawberry Fields, 56 Oswald Street. Tel: (0141) 221 7871.
Vibrant nightclub that recaptures the nostalgic sounds of the 60's/70's.
