ONE OF THE FAMOUS GLENEAGLES GOLF COURSES
WITH THE SPLENDID BACKDROP OF HILLS AND GLENS.

Crieff & Strathearn

In Strathearn just north of the Ochin Hills is one of the world’s great golfing mecca’s – Gleneagles. Occupying a superb setting with rounded mountains and steep glens surrounding in the distance. Located in this attractive setting are the superbly manicured Gleneagles golf courses. There are three courses, The King's; The Queen’s and The Monarch. The last one is the longest inland course in Scotland at 7,081 yards, whilst the King's Course has less yardage it carries a more formidable reputation. Gleneagles is a world famous course and certainly lives up to this standard.

At any time here you will witness different nationalities of the world converge to fulfil their golfing pilgrimage. There is also an equestrian centre at this renowned hotel and country club.

Close by is the town of Auchterarder with its distinctly Victorian atmosphere — the town was razed by the Jacobites in 1715 and was subsequently rebuilt. The Auchterarder Heritage Centre at the Tourist Information Centre reviews the history of the town and the region.

A few miles north on an excellent secondary road is Muthill an unusual town – almost a microcosm of the area with red sandstone cottages, colourful window boxes, tea rooms and a 15th c. church ruin, all within a few hundred yards.

Drummond Castle & Gardens are close by and offer an excellent opportunity to view these superb formal gardens, originally laid out in 1630. The Castle is not open to the public.
